Local Area FCA

Hello all! I am Kelly Herbers, and I have the privilege of being the Mid-Iowa Area Rep for FCA. I get to serve in Roland Story, Gilbert, Ames, Nevada, Ballard, and Colo Nesco high schools. Combining my passions for God, people, and sports into one has always been a dream of mine, and this job allows me to do that. My prayer is that through this ministry we’re able to build God’s Kingdom in sports and in life.

Kelly Herbers

Area Representative

The lord pursued me through sports, and now I am blessed to walk with coaches and athletes as I serve as an area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Sports have always played an important role in my life as I grew up in a very competitive family. Both of my parents and both of my sisters played sports. My dad and oldest sister ended up competing in college as well, and this made me wonder what I could potentially do in sports. I become more serious about sports when I was in high-school pursuing both basketball and soccer. In my junior year of high school I became curious about what it would be like to be a collegian athlete. I wanted to give it a go and ended up accepting a scholarship that year to play soccer at Minnesota State, Mankato.

Throughout my collegian career, I experienced success and hardship. My team won the conference tournament in all four years of my experience. We were fifth in the nation, one of the best D2 teams in collegian soccer. This was a hard journey, though. I faced two torn knees in the span of a year in a half. The Lord showed me that while sports are fun, my identity should always be found in Him. My character, my leadership, my sportsmanship, my drive for the game, etc., all increased when I was faced with these hardships. I become more grateful for the gift that the Lord had given me and wanted to use my platform to glorify His name. After my days on the field were over, I knew the Lord was calling me to continue pursuing sports but in a different way.

As I am originally from Iowa, I decided to come back to Iowa and begin the next chapter of my life. I am newly married to my best friend, Nate. In addition to this, I started my full-time staff position as an area representative for Mid-Iowa’s FCA. I get the honor of working in the Roland-Story, Ballard, Nevada, Gilbert, Colo-Nesco, and Ames schools.

My story has just begun. There is so much yet to do. I am fully devoted to Jesus and humbled to serve Him in growing the Kingdom of Heaven through FCA. I hope you will join us in reaching more student-athletes for Jesus

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you."

Matthew 28:18-20
